Pika Pika (Stop Motion Video)

PIKA PIKA
Stop motion is a video that uses a light source such as touch light and when the light source is moved then it will formed an alphabet or icon. Stop motion or also known as stop action or frame-by-frame is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on it's own. The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a continuous sequence. Therefore, the frames of the stop motion will only be captured using a digital camera or the most common is Digital Single Lense Reflex camera (DSLR).

Pika-pika or in another word 'Light Writing' is an emerging form of stop motion animation wherein still images are captured using the technique known as Light painting or light drawing are put in sequence thereby creating the optical illusion of movement for the viewer.

So this is the procedure how the Pika Pika is done: by sequencing skills taken with 4-30 seconds exposure as lights are moved in and through the frame this effects creates the optical illusion that the light is moving. Zoom, pans, tilts, and most other motion camera techniques can be applied with standard stop motion approaches. The most common technique is to capture multiple second exposures of light moving from one point to another in the frame. As the sequence is built the beginning and ending points of the lights motion can be moved along a given path.

In other words, light writing is most akin to another term of stop motion animation known as direct manipulation animation. A series of long exposure photograph of people waving around lights are combined to create very cool abstract animation, bringing happiness to all.

These are the few examples of Pika-pika that is uploaded at the website.

Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention.

Novelty
What is novelty? Novelty is the quality of being something new. Some said that it may have an dimension but it only exists in the subjective perceptions of individuals. The objective is to create something that is new for all humanities in its development through ages. Therefore it's originality is not a decisive feature of creative work and is always based on what has been created before. Then the concept of novelty should not be taken for granted and the three elements that is levels, aspects and types should be distinguished. A historical approach implies that it is understood in either terms of contrast with a context and transformation of what was borrowed. the tendency for performance to initially improve when new technology is instituted, not because of any actual improvement in learning or achievement, but in response to increased interest in the new technology. The increased attention by students sometimes results in increased effort or persistence, which yields achievement gains. If they are due to a novelty effect, these gains tend to diminish as students become more familiar with the new medium.

Creativity
Creativity is the process of generating something that is new and has value at the same time. Even there are many new ideas and concepts, but some may not have value and may not be considered creative. Therefore, a creation is something that is original and has value on it. (Haggins, 1995, p 3) Creativity does not happen inside people's head. but happens in the interaction between a person's thoughts and a sociocultural context. It is a systemic phenomenon compare to individual phenomenon. (Csikszentmihalyi, 1996, p 23) However this issue has surrounded a mysterious process that causes sparked discussion and arguments among scholars of psychologist. Creativity involves translation of our unique gifts, talents and vision into an external reality that is new and useful and it takes place unavoidably inside our own personal, social, and cultural boundaries. Furthermore, creativity can be identified based on a particular, specifiable features of products or persons thought or thought process. The ways in which societies have perceived the concept of creativity has changed thought out history, has the term itself. Renaissance men sought to give voice to their sense of their freedom and creativity. The first to apply the word "creativity," however, was the 17th-century Polish poet Maciej Karzimierez Sarbiewski — but he applied it only to poetry. In the 19th century, art took its revenge: now not only was art recognized as creativity, but it alone was. When later, at the turn of the 20th century, there began to be discussion as well of creativity in the sciences and in nature, this was taken as the transference, to the sciences and to nature, of concepts that were proper to art.

Innovation

The definition is to bring in new ideas or make changes on the ideas created. (Oxford Dictionary) In another meaning, innovation is the process of making improvements by introducing something new, the realization of a creative idea in a social context or a process where an idea or invention is translated into a good or service for which people will pay. Therefore an idea must be replicable at an economical cost and satisfy a specific need. Although many innovations are created from inventions, it is possible to innovate without inventing, and to invent without innovating.

Innovation are divided into two broad categories:
1) Innovations are brought by numerous incremental advances in technology or processes and are of two types:
a) Continuous innovations in an alteration in product characteristics instead of in a new
product, and do not require any user-learning of changes in his/her routine. Examples,
multi-blade shaving razor, fluoride toothpaste and laptop computer.
b) Dynamic continuous require some user-learning but do not disrupts his/her routine.
Examples, fax machines, instant photography, and hand held computers.
2) Revolutionary innovations require good deal of user-learning, and often disrupts his/her routine, and may even require new behavior patterns. Examples, photocopy machines, personal computers and even internet.

Considerable literature has been produced on this hypothesis, which is often presented in terms of the effects of wage increases as an encouragement to labor-saving innovation. The hypothesis has also been applied to viewing increases in energy costs as a motivation for a more rapid improvement in energy efficiency of goods than would normally occur.

Invention
An invention is a new process or composition that creates a new item. Invention is a very creative process.
It derived from a pre-existing model or idea, or it could be independently conceived in which may be a radical breakthrough. In addition, there is cultural invensions which is an innovative set from useful social behaviors adopted by people and passed on to others. Inventions often extend the boundaries of human knowledge or experience. Invention are something new created by inventors who take existing knowledge and generate new ideas or in other word invention is an open and curious mind enables one to see beyond what is known to enable inventors to think outside the box. Invention has a long and important history in the arts. Inventive thinking has always played a vital role in the creative process. While some inventions in the arts are patentable, others are not because they cannot fulfill the strict requirements governments have established for granting them.

Well from my experience as an art student, I can say that every design or drawing that is related to my course are required to fulfill all the required skill stated. This is due to once all the four skills is used then a good n creative design is created or invented. For example, during my foundation year at FCM Multimedia, I was required to produce an artwork that is about myself and have to do it as creative as possible so it is not wrong when in the starting there is not much ideas generated because ideas don't come instantly. Therefore with intensive thinking, more and more new ideas is created and finally I can produce a creative artwork about myself. This is the pictures of my artwork from the beginning until the finishing.

This is first drawing with just a rough idea
about myself.

After ideas is generated from the first painting,
the drawings become more detail.

This is the final design after the details about me is
transformed into paintings that represents the same meaning.

Are Bloggers Journalist??

Well, I can say that a big portion of people in the community are wondering about this issue which is 'Are Bloggers Can be Consider as a Journalist'?? Actually bloggers are people who always writes a blog or weblog and comments other people's blog. While journalists are people who collects and disseminates information about up to date events, people, trends and issues. Therefore, his/her work is acknowledged as journalism. Journalist is a career and who have received professional education and training, have responsibilities, and have certain skills

One example of journalist are reporters. Their responsibilities are creating reports aas a profession for broadcast or publication in mass media such as newspapers, television, radio, magazines and the internet. Besides reporters, columnist is also known as one of the journalist who writes pieces that appear regularly in newspapers or magazines. Some journalist adhere to the to the standards and norms expressed in the Society of Professional Journalist ethical code. Therefore most of practicing journalist are concern about about the issue of maintaining credibility.

On the other hand, bloggers plays a similar role compare to journalist. Usually bloggers will post about what they think or feels about a something. Then anyone can be a blogger by just registering their names at the websites. Bloggers do not need to be well educated such as have good language but they have the freedom to write whatever that suits them. They can even post blogs in multiple languages until they feel comfortable with it. Currently there are many websites that can be used by bloggers to post their articles.

So are bloggers considered as journalist?? Actually I feel that bloggers have the same characteristics with journalist but they are not in the same field. Bloggers are actually people who like to express their feelings, thought or maybe even telling people about something new. They don't even care about whether is it true or not or maybe it's just a myth. Usually bloggers intention is to let other people know what he/she is thinking or planning to do. They don;t even care if the post they blog will hurt other people feelings or maybe will create a chaos. This is because there are many useless people who like to act as 'anonymous' or 'unknown' and post bad
comments or critics about their post and makes the bloggers wondering who is he/she. Therefore for the long run, it creates a bad impression to other people on that specific post until government can't do anything about it. They can just watch the problem happens. Besides that, journalist differs with bloggers. They are assigned to create blogs or articles about what is happening around us and all of it totally relates to common sense. Even most of the article is a true by the sense it really happens in the real world. Therefore, most of the comments from outsiders are good and there a less majority of bad comments. On the other hand, people who like to be 'spoilers' or 'anonymous' to damage people's comments or blogs about something they don't like. Therefore, the government or relevant authorities should take deep action on this matter. If not it will be a disaster for the bloggers and maybe will effect the journalist in the future because they are in the same field. For example, both of their working field are the same that is writing articles or blogs that is related to the surroundings. Just that the articles they post are slightly different.

Besides that, journalist is career that receive professional training in education and communication skills so do professional bloggers. Actually they do have careers that makes them professional bloggers. Not like newbie bloggers who like to post blogs that is not related to their life at all because from what I saw in most blogs, they like to give bad comments about someone they don't like or hate then it will create a mass chaos and misunderstanding. This shows that bloggers are not well educated in moral values and language where they can use not proper language in writing their blogs. It will effects their future when they start communicating with other people in the outside world. I suggest that journalist should be an example to all bloggers because journalist have limitation in such as bound to the rules or can't post sensitive issues that will hurt others feelings.

In conclusion, not everyone will think that bloggers are not journalist. The problem is how each
different individual look into this matter. Maybe some will think bloggers have more freedom in creating blogs and journalists not or maybe is another way round. Furthermore regarding the language problem and moral value, if government or related authorities doesn't take serious action about this, in the long run will affect the young ones in the future because they are the future leaders in the community. If they are not well mannered from small, then sooner the whole community will be full of not professional peoples and criminals.

Defining Creativity

Creativity

There are many definition of creativity stated in black and white. So the main definition is the generation of new ideas or a new way of doing things. In another meaning, creativity is the ability to generate innovative ideas and manifest them that is from thought into reality. The original process involves original thinking and then producing it. The process of creation was historically reserved for deities creating "from nothing" in Creationism and other creation myths. Over time, the term creativity came to include human innovation, especially in art and science and led to the emergence of the creative class. In order to be creative, we must be able to view things in new ways of from a different perspective. Among other things, you need to be able to generate new possibilities or new alternatives.
Tests of creativity measure not only the number of alternatives that people can generate but the uniqueness of those alternatives, the ability to generate alternatives or to see things uniquely does not occur by change; it is linked to other, more fundamental qualities of thinking, such as flexibility, tolerance of ambiguity or unpredictability, and the enjoyment of things.

So i would like to share with you all about one of my friend that I think is creative and has the creativity mind to me.

This is Howard Tai. He is my friend and also my roommate at the same time since my foundation year. He is 22 years old this year and studies in Film and Animation. Why I think that he is creative? Because of his look? Or his apprearence? That is all wrong. Do you ever seen people holding a camera and keep snapping pictures everywhere? No right? Well this friend mine likes to take his DSLR camera everywhere he goes and start taking pictures that he thinks is nice and brings meaning to him. If for some people, they will think that is useless and is a waste of time. Whenever he goes out whether is for meals, outing with friends or etc. he will takes his camera along with him also. Besides, he also likes to carry his bag pack wherever he goes. Even though sometimes it has nothing inside it but he still carries it whenever he goes. Most of his friends feels weird with his action for doing so but i don't think is weird and at the same time is creative because taking photograph is a creative way to sharpen the photography skills and can be different with other people.

This is an example of him taking photos after dinner
at Old Town, Cyberjaya.

This is another picture of him taking an insects
at the school corridor.

Another picture of him holding his camera at
at the river side during a camping activity.

This is a picture of him holding his camera and
bag pack at the same time.

In conclusion, creativity is defined as the ability to see something in a new way, to see and solve problems no one else may know it exists, and to engage in mental and physical experiences that are new, unique, or different. So i feel that my friend here uses the method of creativity in changing his lifestyle to a better one.

Social Media

What is social media?? Social Media are designed to interact through social interaction, using high technology publishing techniques. Social media uses web-based technologies to transform and broadcast media monologues into social media dialogues. Social media have been modernized to reach consumer's needs in a new way especially through the internet. Social media have become appealing to big and small businesses. Let us take Twitter for example, it has expanded its global reach to Japan, Indonesia, and Mexico, etc. Besides Twitter, there are many other popular networking sites such as Myspace, Facebook and Windows Live Messenger (MSN) are the most commonly used for socialization and connecting friends, relatives and even employees.

Obviously nowadays u can see many people started to use Facebook as their main source of communication among their friends. As the number of Facebook users are increasing,it influences them to use other types of software to communicate with each other such as the 'Winndows Live Messenger' or 'Skype'. I totally agree with it. Futhermore, i realise that not only teenagers or young children are interested in this kind of social media, even elderly people also are interested in this. For example my father also have an Facebook and Twitter account and he seems to like it very much. Almost everyday he will sit in front of the computer table and start Facebooking. Besides that, even lecturers and tutors post videos or announcements either in Youtube or Facebook, i'm kinda impressed with their knowledge about Social Media as deep as teenagers or young children. This shows that they are updated to what is happening around them.

Besides Facebook and Twitter, there is another type of social media that most of the users used nowadays that is 'Blog'. A 'blog' is a type of website usually maintained by an individual that is called blogger, with regular entries of commentary descriptions of events, or other material such
as graphics or video. Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as a personal online diaries. It creates the ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Actually this is my first time blogging as a blogger. Before this I feel that blogs are boring and it takes a lot of our precious times on writing
a blog. So might as spend that time on our studies than blogging.

But on the other side, I realised that social media are not only helps in the good side but it also contributes to the bad side. I feel that most of the online game users misused online game as the social media tool. This is because when they are communicating with each other, they prefer to use vulgar words more than proper language. So I feel that it ruins a person's moral value and they will take that as their main communication language and use it on other situations in the future.

In conclusion, social media has a lot variety of ways of communicating with each other and has its own pros and cons. Therefore, we must choose wisely on which type of social media that suits a certain of a person. Even though it helps us to stay connected with people that far from you, knowing each other with just a click and faster way. But if it goes out of control then there will
be a lot of problems occur in the society and leads to misunderstanding among each other. Therefore we must think wisely before we move on with it.

Introduction to Creative Studies

What is Creative Studies? Well, the main objective of creative studies is to introduce and provide aspects of thinking methods and even creativity, either in encountering and solving problems. In another word, creative studies is to develop the ability to spot an issue or a topic and from there it carries out appropriate research, analysis and also idea synthesis that result in a unique or personal statement.

Therefore in my opinion, creative studies is where we can gain our knowledge by the understanding the concept of design and etc. At the beginning, during my foundation year at this faculty, my English teacher, Miss Azrena, she told us that during our degree year, there will be English subject but the name of the subject will be changed to another word such as Creative Studies. So we will been thinking whether is it this class is the class that Miss Azrena said.

So during the first day of the class, we been waiting for the lecturer to come that is Miss Azrena. But after that is not Miss Azrena, is another three lecturers that we seen them before during the foundation year that is Mr. Yap Sau Bin and Mr. Ahmad Radzi. But I been wondering does the two lecturer teach us English before? I don't think so. From what I remember they taught us Media Appreciation and Media Culture. So when Mr. Yap Sau Bin brief us about the course structure, then only I know that this subject is actually the same as the two subject i studied before that is Media Appreciation and Media Culture. So I feel very happy that is not English because the English class is not as fun compare to Creative Studies class because Mr. Yap Sau Bin is a good and fun teacher.

What Is Your Expectation From The Class?
Previously during our foundation year, Mr. Yap Sau Bin is a very good lecturer and he taught us a lot of the concept of art and how we will impose it to our design studies. Therefore, I expect him to teach us more during this semester and let us gain more and more knowledge about it. Besides, i want the lesson to be fun and interesting throughout the fourteen weeks.

What I Would Like to Learn From This Class?
I would like to improve my design knowledge and at the same time learn new things from the lecture classes. Besides, I would like to meet new friends and communicate with my old friends from foundation years since we are not in the same major anymore.
